Arterial Line Insertion
This station consists of a realistic wrist with a pulsatile radial artery for cannulation. The model allows for simulation of different arterial pressures which will challenge the most experienced physician. Our tutor will explain the procedure and the relevant peripheral connections to a monitor and pressure bag. This is an ideal opportunity to practise a procedure which can be difficult in the most co-operative patient. Our latest model has had excellent reviews from candidates.
At the end of this station you will:
-
Be aware of the relevant wrist anatomy and indications for arterial line insertion
Be able to describe the arterial waveform and understand how to attach the arterial line to a monitor.
Have practised the insertion of an arterial line
Be aware of possible complications and their appropriate management.
