Ultrasound guided Internal Jugular central venous access

This station provides an excellent opportunity to perform an US guided line insertion under the supervision of an experienced ITU physician. This is a technique is now recognised by NICE as the most appropriate and safe way of inserting an internal jugular central venous catheter.

At the end of this station you will:

1. Have an overview of how to use the basic functions of an U.S. machine to visualise vascular structures
   
2. Practise co-ordinating line insertion under US guidance
3. Be aware of potential complications of this procedure
4. Be aware of issues regarding sterility whilst performing US imaging
