This is a unique opportunity to practise both Seldinger and surgical chest drain insertion on a large sheep chest. The experience in this station is very close to the real life situation and is consistently one of the most highly praised teaching stations. Each candidate will have their own sheep’s’ thorax on which to practise.

At the end of this station you will:
  1. Have gained experience of each aspect of chest drain insertion
  2. Skin Incision
  3. Blunt dissection
  4. Piercing the pleural cavity
  5. Safe passage of drain into the chest cavity
  6. Connecting drain to an under water seal
  7. Be aware of potential complications
  8. Be taught basic suturing techniques required to secure drains
